Project Description
Von Louhr Apartments
ACHIEVEability
ACHIEVEability rescued this abandoned and fire-damaged structure in 1988 by renovating the building and obtaining state and national historic certification. Now the Von Louhr Building is undergoing its second complete renovation and historic restoration with the guidance of BWA. To help fund the work ACHIEVEability’s 25-unit “flagship” complex, which also houses their offices, the non-profit is employing both historic tax credits and low-income housing investment credits. The renovation will preserve the historic character of both the interior and the street facades. Less visible but of greater impact are the comprehensive “envelope” upgrades (thermal performance, new windows, roofing, masonry restoration), all new high efficiency building systems, new kitchens and bathrooms, and the inclusion of accessible apartments.
