On June 10, 2011, elected officials, senior staff from the PA Historic and Museum Commission, park supporters and residents gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony that marked the start of renovations to the new WCP Visitor’s Center. BWA’s team designed the renovations, additions and extensive site improvements that will transform the Visitors’ Center into an attractive modern, energy-efficient, well-landscaped complex that welcomes, orients and informs visitors. The reconfigured and expanded facility re-establishes the historic north entrance and Mall of Flags, provides a new museum space and includes a renovated auditorium, a meeting and events space, a larger gift shop, restored and expanded lobbies, support spaces, artifact storage and space for a Phase 2 education wing. Construction is expected to be complete by summer 2012.
